Masthead Draft

This is a draft for the masthead of my magazine, the black and gold colours connote sophistication and power. Due to none of the fonts working correctly in the colour I have chose to use, I had to pick a font which was similar to the most popular font chosen in the survey.

Here are the results for the questionnaire which would determine the font of the masthead of my music magazine, as you can see the third font won with 6 votes, therefore I am going to use this.

After asking 10 people, the most popular name of the questionnaire was 'Filet-O-Funk' with 7 votes, while others gained 5 votes and 2 votes, therefore, I am going to use the name, 'Filet-O-Funk'.

I have created a questionnaire to determine the name of my music magazine: I will ask around 15 people about the title pf my music magazine, and will use the one with the most selections.

Questionnaire for my genre of music magazine

I have decided to create a questionnaire to decide which type of genre my magazine will be based on. I will hand this questionnaire out to ten people and whichever one gets the most votes will be the genre of music magazine I will choose.

My chosen musician

I have chosen to use my dad, Wayne Samuels (Stagename) as the main artist on my music magazine, as he is a musician himself. Therefore, I will be able to get images of himself performing as well as original images I haven taken myself. The images of my dad performing at various venues will make the magazine look more professional.

Preliminary Evaluation

For my preliminary task I believe that I had a variety of good points in order to take into my actual task, however there was some which I think I should leave back. For example, I really like the use of filters on images, as i used a black and white filter it gives a sense of sophistication to the magazine. There is a clear house style to the magazine as well which I like. However, there were a few things which I didn't really like. I think that the masthead looked unprofessional and the logo for the magazine looked out of place, this could be touched up for when I create my actual print magazine. Also, I think that I didn't use enough variety of filters for my magazine, with only using the black and white filter it looks a bit bland. Also all of the photos are taken in the same setting, so for my actual magazine I will be taking photos of people in different settings.

Photoshop effects

I watched this video so that I could understand and use PhotoShop better. I will be using this to edit the images on both my preliminary and my main task, the video also contains tutorials on certain effects such as creating shadows, this can make my magazine look more genuine and professional.

Adobe InDesign Research

As my magazine is going to be created using the program Adobe InDesign, I have decided to watch a tutorial video for beginners in order to understand it a bit more. This tutorial includes ways in which to use tools correctly, plus effects and such in which you can apply to images. This should allow to make the music magazine look more professional than it was going to and get more marks.

I have created a questionnaire so that I will understand my audience a bit more, then I will decide who my target market will be. I am going to give this questionnaire to 20 people and will then analyse the results later on.
